It's nice to see the movers and shakers of our nocturnal community doing as much as they can to prove that philanthropy has nothing to do with free drink tickets and everything to do with worthy causes such as the 11th annual Intercontinental Ball benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, from 7-11 tonight.
While the event's been an enormous success over the past decade, raising more than $4.35 million and granting 800 wishes to gravely ill kids, this year's event sounds spectacular, with a performance by Wyclef Jean and an amusing roster of guests, guest stars and whatnot. The Forge's Shareef Malnik is the ball's chairman; his dad Al and wife Nancy are lifetime benefactors and special honorees.
Special ''guest'' honorees are Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons and MCs of the event are ex-Apprentice contestants Katrina Campins and Bradford Cohen. Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell will also be there -- she's already in the 'hood for the Miami Book Fair International, and a splashy event that took place Thursday night promoting her latest tome, Lipstick Jungle, at 600 Biscayne, the sales center for the swank 900 Biscayne Bay condo building.
