WYMS-FM Milwaukee is a non-commercial station that will be the first of its kind...a musician-run radio station being designed from the ground up for musicians and music lovers. Musicians Peter Buffett and Joe Puerta are among the founders and board members. Dale Spear, most recently VP of PRI (Public Radio International), is the station General Manager. I am the lead consultant on the project and am joined by my Media Mechanics partners Paul Marszalek and Ben Manilla.
We are conducting a national search seeking creative, energetic on-air talent looking for something more than traditional radio opportunities. This is a chance to be in on the ground floor of a new, non-commercial music format that will become a national model. With our new format, WYMS will offer the best of what radio should be all about -- and what has been lost from much of radio today. WYMS will have a strong community focus on Milwaukee and Wisconsin and will seek to connect with local musicians, creatives, and young professionals.
The ideal applicant should be a music lover with a creative personality who thrives in a creative environment. Production experience is strongly desired. We're looking for air talent and music directors with at least five years on-air experience who are truly interested in being involved in the local community...someone who is a progressive thinker; strong communicator, and a great story-teller.
Do you love radio but not what radio has become? Are you full of great music ideas that you can't get on air? Do you want to help recreate radio's future? If so, we want to hear from you. If you're interested, please send materials to Dale Spear, WYMS-FM, 5225 W. Vliet St., Room 10, Milwaukee WI, 53208. Questions? E-mail Dale Spear at dale @ wyms.org or call him at 414.331.7695.
