So, I've been watching the stats since Tuesday's
episode of "Rock Star: INXS" when they spiked like crazy. Jordis moved
everyone in the house with her rendition of "The Man Who Sold The
World." Her dedicated performance was so awesome, INXS invited her to the stage tonight for an encore. See for yourself. Download "The Man Who Sold The World."
I had lots of yahooligans and googlers looking for the download and they all arrived at This... is Jordis Unga.
Fortunately for them the post has the official links to download all of
Jordis' and the other performers' songs from each week. Except the
first night, on which Jordis performed The Who's "Baba O'Riley," but I
happen to know there is at least one unauthorized copy available online, so if one really
wants to obtain this...
Anyhow, if you'd been watching Rock Star, and I'll assume you
haven't been, you'd already know that Jordis is amazing. She is by far
the most talented of the bunch--my favorite since the beginning. I wasn't the only one to notice this...
"When dreadlocked Jordis Unga
stepped on stage and ripped into a searing rendition of The Who's 'Baba
O'Reilly,' she didn't just kick off another music competition, she
outsang four seasons' worth of American Idols." ~ People Magazine
I
think Jordis is the only one to not have been put up for elimination
and has never had anything even close to a bad performance. Matter of fact,
I'm not sure she's had even a bad note. I recall something about a
dropped line once, maybe. Whatever. Her voice is in your face and she has
near perfect pitch. And now we know she can pull off ballads too?
Back to you not watching this... other songs you've missed?
"Fortunate Son," "Gimme Some Lovin'," "Everybody Hurts," the most kick ass version of "Lola" ever and "It's Only Rock 'n'
Roll," but I like it. Yeah, you would like it. Ask Joe Greenlight and Sarah in Tampa. You've been
missing out on a great concert every Tuesday night. These are no
American Idols--they're rock stars.
And they're my one guiltly reality pleasure--my first obsession. I've seen all of the performance and elimination episodes; have attended several tapings and even been to the Rock Star mansion down the road to meet the rock stars; been reminiscing through the band's video DVD collection compliments of the production team--thanks guys; and I still have intentions of meeting band director Paul Mirkovich, who I used to go on and on and on and on about while trying to defend a past guilty pleasure. He was the classically trained pianist keyboardist who made Nelson's music credible.
So. Back to Jordis. Her performance of "The Man Who Sold The World"
reminded me that Bowie's not that great and probably perked Curt Kobain's ears from the grave, if they hadn't been already by her previous performance of "Heart Shaped Box." Again, I wasn't alone on this...
So yeah. The fuss isn't all about nothing. Check her out.
Tara, one of my three least favorites from the beginning, got sent home tonight. From this point forward it'll be hard to watch the remaining contenders go, but I look forward to a few more concerts.
My thoughts on the outcome of this...
JD is the best fit for INXS. The band could reel in all that talent and energy and get JD well on his way to a solo career while they finish up theirs. The rest are great, although I won't be sad
to see Jessica go, great voice, no personality. Brandon is too average, Ty is too not average, Marty is too Mick, Suzie is too, well, Suzie. MiG is my second choice for INXS. That kick ass "Lola" I mentioned before, that was him.
Jordis is the rock star. Too much ahead of the 22-year-old to be stuck in front of INXS and that is no dis to the band at all. She needs to get signed by Clive Davis. With INXS and Dave Navarro as fans, we can hope she'll get hooked up with some good industry folks who know how to harness that talent best so the most can enjoy it. We haven't heard the last from her. Not for a long time.
