When I saw the picture of Jamie McMurray's wife from Sunday's race, I was instantly reminded of actress Katharine Ross. Both women are stunningly beautiful in a classic, unassuming kinda way.
For the uninitiated, Ross played Elaine, daughter of the infamous Mrs. Robinson and true obsession of Dustin Hoffman's character, Benjamin Braddock, in "The Graduate." In "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid," her character was the objet du desir of both outlaws played by Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Much like the role of a NASCAR wife, neither's a bad gig if you can get it.
Of course, Ross also played the lead in the original "Stepford Wives," in which she succumbed to her worst fears in the story of women evolving into robotic, submissive housewives in the fictional town of Stepford, Connecticut. Not a trend we want to see Mrs. McMurray or any other wives in NASCAR follow.
In real life, Ross is married to the over-65-and-still-studly Sam Elliott, narrator of "The Big Lebowski" and Patrick Swayze's ass-whooping mentor in "Road House."
