Martin Truex Jr. is on the 2008 Chase bubble and his contract with DEI is up at the end of this season. In a press conference today, Truex said they were working hard to put together a deal for 2009 but it was taking longer than both sides had expected. On his end, he wants to be "comfortable" with the direction the company is headed so they could have a long future.

“Obviously, there are some things going on with our other race cars and our other teams that I’m not quite sure what’s happening with them. So [I’m looking for] a lot of things here and there [before deciding]. Our performance hasn’t been as good as it needs to be this year for whatever reason."
Truex was non-committal about a date to reach an agreement and said right now he wants to focus on winning a race and collecting points to race for the championship. He also says DEI gets an unjustified bad rap:
