Kasey Kahne has been charged with battery for the recent incident at Miami-Homestead Speedway in which he became "beligerent" with security officer Archibald W. Hutchinson after failing to demonstrate the proper credential required to gain access to the R.V. lot.
According to the Homestead Police Report, when he was denied access, Kahne claimed he did not need a credential because he is a driver. He then attempted to walk through the gate ... or tried to drive through ... or maybe both ... depends on which part of the police report you like better.
Doesn't need a credential? Uh ... guess again. Security guards are there to protect the masses, not memorize the faces of every driver in every series at the track--popular or not, whether in uniform or not. Nevermind the fact that drivers aren't the only ones wearing the team uniform.
Poorly handled, Mr. Kahne. Must have been suffering from a bad case of the rules don't apply to me-itis. I have no doubt a judge (and/or a settlement resulting in a nice hit to the wallet) will swiftly cure him of this big-headed celebrity disease.
I also have no doubt the security guard will enjoy his future pay day. But a better idea might have been for him to go home and cry to his mama--his poor tushy probably still hurts from "losing his balance."
