Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban planned to give away 500 tickets to Game 7 in the NBA Finals. However, fans hoping to pick up the hot tickets had their hopes dashed when the Miami Heat won the NBA championship in Game 6.
Texas Motor Speedway has stepped in to fulfill Cuban's promise.
"The Great American Speedway" has partnered with Academy Sports and Outdoors offering 500 free tickets to the Nov. 5 Dickies 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race to Mavs fans. The tickets will be available to Mavericks fans visiting all 10 area Academy Sports & Outdoors stores in Dallas-Fort Worth between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. CDT this Saturday, June 24. To be eligible for the Dickies 500 tickets, fans must show up at the 10 area Academy Sports & Outdoors stores in Mavericks apparel during the two-hour period and can register to win. All entries received during the two-hour promotion at the stores will be entered for a random drawing for 250 pair of tickets to the big NASCAR race.
"I had the pleasure of attending Game 6 and saw the passion, enthusiasm, and ultimately the heartbreak of the fans when the Mavs lost," said Eddie Gossage, President of Texas Motor Speedway. "I listened to the fans as they quietly filed out of the arena and got to thinking about those fans with the free tickets to Game 7 that were now denied. The Dickies 500 tickets are red hot and very much in demand. It just seemed like a remedy for the community's heartbreak.
"Along with Academy Sports & Outdoors, we want to congratulate the Mavericks on a truly outstanding season and their first-ever trip to the NBA Finals," Gossage said. "We also want to help the community show they appreciate what this team means to the Metroplex and offer fans some relief. Fans can be 'Rowdy, Loud and Proud' when they come to Texas Motor Speedway, too."
Each of the 10 area Academy Sports & Outdoors stores will have a Texas Motor Speedway pace car out front to signify the stores participating in the ticket giveaway. Fans wearing Mavs apparel to the store can register with a speedway representative to become eligible to win a pair of Dickies 500 tickets. With 10 store locations being involved, names of the registered fans will be randomly drawn and notified by Texas Motor Speedway officials next week.
