Amanda Beard is the recent former girlfriend of NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Carl Edwards. The two met at the California Motor Speedway Labor Day weekend, 2004, just after Amanda had returned from Athens with an Olympic gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke. Then, former Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken, a mutual friend, got them together shortly before the Fontana race in February 2005 and they dated until May of 2006. They remain friends. Last year, Amanda signed a million-dollar with Speedo to be the face/body of their axcelerate line. Currently, she is training at the University of Arizona for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
