NASCAR drivers pose with their pets for this...

Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the new 2006 NASCAR Pets Calendar this week at the Daytona International Speedway and also attend the special calendar launch autograph session.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. this Friday, July 1, fans can purchase a NASCAR Pets package from the Pit Shop located inside Daytona USA and be able to get their calendars autographed Saturday morning by four of the Nextel Cup Series drivers who are featured in the calendar along with their pets.

The first 250 fans to purchase the 2006 NASCAR Pets package ($40 each) will receive the new calendar and also be able to get their calendar autographed on Saturday at 10 a.m. inside Daytona USA by Greg Biffle, current Nextel Cup Series points leader and driver of the No. 16 National Guard Ford; Kurt Busch, defending Nextel Cup Series champion and driver of the No. 97 Sharpie/Irwin Ford; Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 DeWalt Industrial Tools Ford; and Jason Leffler, driver of the No. 11 Federal Express Chevrolet.

Did a careless scientist cause this...?

While I've casually entertained controversial theories on the origin of AIDS before, I've not yet been convinced that AIDS was man-made for the purpose of genocide.

However, after watching "The Origin of AIDS," I find it hard not to seriously entertain the (not new) theory that the AIDS epidemic was inadvertently caused by an anxious scientist so focused on edging out the competition with a viable polio vaccination that he ignored safety precautions and exercised questionable ethics in the creation and administration of the vaccine in the Belgian Congo in Africa.

The gist of it is this...

The Origins of AIDS probes one of the most vexing, highly charged areas of AIDS research: how and when the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was introduced to humans. Research has shown that chimpanzees carry simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV), a close relative of HIV. Science knows that AIDS originated in Africa, and has concluded that at some point SIV crossed over into humans and became HIV. It has been argued that the lethal contact could have come through the food supply, but there is another theory: that SIV was introduced to humans via mass polio immunization programs carried out in Africa the late 1950s. Beginning with a history of the mid-century polio eradication crusade, directors Chappell and Peix (a former biology teacher) take an in-depth look at the polio hypothesis and the furious response it has provoked in the scientific community. Their investigation ultimately leads them to modern-day Congo, site of the polio research camp set up in 1957 by the revered scientist Hilary Koprowski, inventor of an oral polio vaccine.

While it's not definitive that Koprowski's vaccine is the direct cause of the world's greatest pandemic, what is definitive, based on the investigations, is that Koprowski and his team's research of the substrate cells from which the polio vaccines were grown was lacking. And the fact that there is even a possibility that a scientist, while eliminating one disease, created a far more deadly one--out of carelessness and arrogance--brings shame upon the scientifitic community worldwide. 

This theory has been refuted by a computer analysis dates the first HIV case as far back as 1930. Although, I don't know how this would excuse a scientist of possible mass administration of the disease.

Of course, all of this is predicated on the hypothesis that HIV causes AIDS, which, like every other scientific theory, is in question.

So here's what I'm hearing about that relationship.
A source VERY close to the deal is saying there's a contract.
It's worth $5 million.
It's for five years.
There will be no sex.
The deal was sealed June 7.
That's what I'm hearing.

And one kid. I obviously have no way of confirming this and don't know who does. What I can confirm is that Katie read for Tom Cruise's partner, Paula Wagner, for a part in Mission Impossible III and was subsequently sent to LA for a read with Cruise. Holmes did not return for 17 days and when she did, she met with and fired her manager stating, in a prepared speech, that she was embarking on a new journey in her life and needed new people around her.  Rumor has it those 17 days were spent detoxing in The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre.  I find it hard not to believe this...

The third bearded lady of this...

I've tried and tried to avoid this..., but alas I have succumbed to a TomKat post, but only because I have learned that the truth outside Scientologywood is not widely known. 

A few weeks ago Tom Cruise called Katie Holmes up out of the blue and within no time the two have become engaged.  Ok, well maybe a few people know that last part now.    But this sure doesn't have the makings of another recent short courtship celebrity marriage. 

Allow me to dispel any doubts about this...

Holmes accepted Cruise's 5 year, $5M, sex-free marriage contract to become his third wife (see also: Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman), but she was fifth down the list of The Church of Scientology's Third Cruise Arranged Marriage quest (see also: Scarlett Johansson, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba, Linsday Lohan)

Here's what I already knew had previously heard or have recently learned from the Scientologywood fact files/rumor mill:

• Rogers' father was a scientologist
• Rogers' uncle is L. Ron Hubbard
• Rogers' first husband was her Scientologist counselor
• Rogers introduced Cruise to TCOS
• TCOS arranged for Rogers to be Cruise's beard

• Cruise is impotent
• Cruise is sterile
• Cruise is gay
• Cruise is a pusher

It's also been widely rumored that Cruise has been brainwashed by The Cult of Scientology, but shhhh! don't tell anyone, one day you might disappear.

So, now that I've told you everything I know, I have a question about this...

RCR Racing lawsuit 06 06 05

Welcome, N.C. (May 23, 2005) – Court proceedings in the lawsuit filed by Richard Childress Racing against the United of Omaha Life Insurance Company will begin on May 23, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., in Superior Court in nearby Lexington.

This case arises out of life insurance covering the death of Dale Earnhardt at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18, 2001. It involves the three-year contract Earnhardt and Richard Childress signed in 2000 to cover the years 2001 through 2003.

Richard Childress Racing agreed to insure Earnhardt for $7.2 million, to be payable to Teresa Earnhardt if he died during the first year of the contract. A $3.5 million life insurance policy was already in effect with National Life of Vermont and Richard Childress Racing purchased an additional policy worth $3.7 million through agents of United of Omaha, a subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha prior to Earnhardt’s death.

The insurance policy application with United of Omaha was completed and signed in January 2001 by all parties involved: Richard Childress Racing, Dale Earnhardt personally, and United of Omaha. Two premium payments were made by Richard Childress Racing to agents of United of Omaha.

Within 24 hours of Earnhardt’s death, United of Omaha declined payment on the $3.7 million policy and stated they had closed their file on the case. Shortly after that, National Life of Vermont sent a check for $3.5 million to Richard Childress Racing, which was delivered to Teresa Earnhardt.

The lawsuit against United of Omaha is for violation of North Carolina laws dealing with bad faith and unfair and deceptive trade practices by insurance companies. Under those laws, insurance companies must conduct a reasonable investigation of all claims based upon all available information. Richard Childress Racing contends that United of Omaha did not conduct such an investigation and illegally refused to pay under the policy, thus violating the law and regulations applicable to insurance companies in North Carolina. He is pursing this case on behalf of Dale Earnhardt, Dale’s memory, and Teresa Earnhardt.

This trial is set for a special session of the Superior Court of Davidson County in Lexington, N.C., which will begin May 23, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. The case will be heard by a resident Superior Court judge in Davidson County, the Honorable Kimberly G. Taylor. This is to be a trial by jury that is expected to last for one to two weeks.

Doubt it. A rough beginning to one season and everyone thinks Dale Jr.'s ready to throw the towel in on the company his father and stepmother built? Doesn't sound like the Dale Jr. I know. Besides, he's under contract through the 2007 season, and I doubt there's another team racing to the bank for a loan to buy DEI out of this...

Update 7.2.05:  Martin Truex Jr. has resigned with DEI stating "loyalty, consistency and friendship" are what compelled him to stay with DEI rather than go for more money elsewhere. 

This should further put to rest any rumors of Junior leaving DEI.  Hard to imagine he'd get his protege to sign for all those reasons and then leave himself.
