For those of us who still believe in the original principles of the Democratic Party, when being liberal meant promoting peace but knowing when it is necessary to go to war, we will do everything we can to encourage Lieberman to continue running as an independent candidate. This is because as Americans, we care more about having good leaders in Washington than about party politics.
In a move apparently driven toward self-destruction, the Democratic Party has adopted the war in Iraq as its sole identifying issue and anyone who deviates from the party's position on that issue is shunned. Never mind the fact that many liberals who still support core Democratic values are being turned a cold shoulder. Apparently, those issues now mean very little to the Democratic Party. In a transparent streak of revenge aimed toward the Bush White House, the party has become obsessed with challenging the war.
