The only thing that needs to happen to start this diverse world heading in the right direction on the roadmap to world peace is for Islamic extremists (is that polite enough for the PCers?) and the rest of Allah's followers to take this...

and learn to handle being disrespected and ridiculed on a regular basis just like the Jews and Christians and every other religious group, or race, or ethnicity, or social class, or...

If the Religion of Tolerance could just learn to tolerate a little irreverence the world would be a far more peaceful place.  But, just like Spanish speakers coming to America are considered too stupid to learn English, Muslims are assumed too unyeilding to be able to live cililly among the rest of us.  So we have to adjust to give up our freedoms to accomodate their insecurities for fear of being beheaded for saying anything negative about muslims, Islam or Allah.  Welcome to dhimmitude.

Oh, and for all of you Americans who still have your head in the desert sand and think that talk of dhimmitude, jihadism and Islamofascism, particularly in the United States, is bunk, then you're not paying attention to how it's already infiltrated our society and our laws.  Special handling of the Qur'an required by the military?  WTF?  The detainees should be appreciative they even get to keep their holy book while they're locked up.  That's a lot more than is afforded our prisoners held by those following the Religion of Tolerance in other parts of the world.

The difference is in powerlessness. Any religious group can countenance disrespect and ridicule when it feels sufficiently empowered. When (rightly or wrongly, for better or worse) religions perceive themselves to be helpless and stuck under someone's disproportionately powerful thumb, the "chill pill" is harder to take.

Example One: in Israel, under the British Mandate in the 1940s, Jewish extremist organizations Irgun and the Stern Gang mounted deadly operations in Palestine against British soldiers and civilians... this in the effort to roll back British immigration policies that discriminated against Jews.

Example Two: in South Vietnam in 1963, Buddhists rioted when the Diem regime outlawed Buddhist flags and signage.

Is Judaism bad? Is Buddhism bad? Did these wackos just need to take their chill pills and get over it? Maybe. Or maybe what needed to happen was for the Brits to stop rounding up Jewish immigrants to Palestine and putting them in holding camps, and for the Catholic South Vietnamese government to cease the repression against its Buddhist citizenry.

So, Patrick, are you suggesting that Islamic-Americans are being rounded up into holding camps or forbidden from practicing or protesting?

I only ask because it's pretty obvious that none of these nutballs in the Islamic Thinkers Group, who are openly calling for a Caliphate to overthrow the American government, are in holding camps or in any way being repressed. In fact, the government of NYC is apparently bending over backwards to avoid offending them or their likeminded cohort.

I'm pretty sure you can see the difference between fighting for basic liberties and just being a hypersensitive, maladjusted fruitcake. Or did we just need to make sure the Klan felt "empowered"?

Dhimmitude: the Islamic system of governing populations conquered by jihad wars, encompassing all of the demographic, ethnic, and religious aspects of the political system. The word "dhimmitude" as a historical concept, was coined by Bat Ye'or in 1983 to describe the legal and social conditions of Jews and Christians subjected to Islamic rule. The word "dhimmitude" comes from dhimmi, an Arabic word meaning "protected". Dhimmi was the name applied by the Arab-Muslim conquerors to indigenous non-Muslim populations who surrendered by a treaty (dhimma) to Muslim domination. Islamic conquests expanded over vast territories in Africa, Europe and Asia, for over a millennium (638-1683). The Muslim empire incorporated numerous varied peoples which had their own religion, culture, language and civilization. For centuries, these indigenous, pre-Islamic peoples constituted the great majority of the population of the Islamic lands. Although these populations differed, they were ruled by the same type of laws, based on the shari'a.

This similarity, which includes also regional variations, has created a uniform civilization developed throughout the centuries by all non-Muslim indigenous people, who were vanquished by a jihad-war and governed by shari'a law. It is this civilization which is called dhimmitude. It is characterized by the different strategies developed by each dhimmi group to survive as non-Muslim entity in their Islamized countries. Dhimmitude is not exclusively concerned with Muslim history and civilization. Rather it investigates the history of those non-Muslim peoples conquered and colonized by jihad.

Dhimmitude encompasses the relationship of Muslims and non-Muslims at the theological, social, political and economical levels. It also incorporates the relationship between the numerous ethno-religious dhimmi groups and the type of mentality that they have developed out of their particular historical condition which lasted for centuries, even in some Muslim countries, till today.

Dhimmitude is an entire integrated system, based on Islamic theology. It cannot be judged from the circumstantial position of any one community, at a given time and in a given place. Dhimmitude must be appraised according to its laws and customs, irrespectively of circumstances and political contingencies.
