Meet John Conyers Jr., today's biggest threat to your civil liberties.  His site says this...

As Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Conyers has introduced and supported legislation to advance civil liberties, ensure equal protection and equal access to the voting booth and fight against violence against women.

But don't let him fool you.

Representative Conyers (D-MI) is behind the latest proposed Islamofascist legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.  (Think he's Italian?)  He wants to pass a law regulating our thoughts and prohibiting the desceration of the Qur'an in the previously free United States:

Text of Conyers' Resolution Regarding Relgious Intolerance

I received a large number of comments, and quite a spirited debate, concerning my resolution opposing religious intolerance, including desecration of the Quran. I appreciate all of the comments, both those supporting and opposing my actions. I continue to believe that given recent events, it is worthwhile for the Congress to actually express its support for the freedom of religion. The resolution was drafted to oppose all religious intolerance. To the extent it mentions the Quran and Islam specifically, that is obviously to respond to those who believe our nation would tolerate disrespect of that religion or its holy book. Clearly we should not, at least in my opinion.

Anyway, below in the extended entry is the full text of H. Res. 288. I hope you agree that read in its totality, it is a fair and appropriate resolution.

Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives condemning bigotry and religious intolerance, and recognizing that holy books of every religion should be treated with dignity and respect.

Whereas believers of all religions, including the Abrahamic faiths of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, should be treated with respect and dignity;

Whereas the word Islam comes from the Arabic root word meaning “peace” and “submission”;

Whereas there are an estimated 7,000,000 Muslims in America, from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, forming an integral part of the social fabric of America;

Whereas the Quran is the holy book for Muslims who recite passages from it in prayer and learn valuable lessons about peace, humanity and spirituality;
Whereas it should never be official policy of the United States Government to disparage the Quran, Islam, or any religion in any way, shape, or form;

Whereas mistreatment of prisoners and disrespect toward the holy book of any religion is unacceptable and against civilized humanity;

Whereas the infringement of an individual’s right to freedom of religion violates the Constitution and laws of the United States: Now, therefore, be it

1 Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) condemns bigotry, acts of violence, and intolerance against any religious group, including our friends, neighbors, and citizens of the Islamic faith;

(2) declares that the civil rights and civil liberties of all individuals, including those of the Islamic faith, should be protected;

(3) recognizes that the Quran, the holy book of Islam, as any other holy book of any religion, should be treated with dignity and respect; and

(4) calls upon local, State, and Federal authorities to work to prevent bias-motivated crimes and acts against all individuals, including those of the Islamic faith.

Are you kidding?

No indication yet on penalties, but I assume if we start passing Islamofascist laws, we will start establishing Islamofascist punishments.  That would mean that if  someone who is not in the state of wudu should, for example, happen to touch a copy of the Koran, say in a library or bookstore, the punishment would be the cutting off of the feet.

I'll just be a tallglassofmilk if they pass this...

Here is my comment on this...

Mr. Conyers,

Are you in a state of wudu?

Do you realize that if you are not and you have so much as touched a Koran that you would be considered to have desecrated it?

Would you lead us to believe you have never touched a Koran?  I for one would not be convinced of this as I'm sure no lawmaker would ever propose any legislation regarding any book without having first read it.

So, now that we have established you have touched the Koran, and assuming you were not in a state of wudu, you do realize the punishment for such is the cutting off the feet?  How tall are you anyway?

Are you prepared to have your feet chopped off?  Please allow me the pleasure of doing this... I haven't been to Detroit for awhile.

Your constituents can't vote you out of office fast enough and I am now on board to see this happen.  Oh, but many of your constituents are Muslim, aren't they?  Ah, now I understand.  You are worried about losing your job and you're under pressure to do this...

Trying to police thoughts and steal our freedoms?

Yeah, right. Good luck with this...

I've just emailed Conyers a link to this post letting him know the campaign to vote him out begins with this... Care to join in this...?

I'm inclined to go flush or burn my copy of the Qur'an right now while I still have the freedom to do this...

Meanwhile you can burn bibles or the flag

tgom, you're the greatest... Here I was, looking for a reason not to trim my toe nails when you bring on 'Saw just below the ankles to remove this...'

My Christian hands have picked up a Quran, and my Christian eyes have read its words. Guess that makes my feet short-timers, even though when I studied the Quran as a young man, I had no idea that this was an offense that would place my feet in peril...

In other words, no point in toe nail maintenance here, either.

Just what do you do with an enemy's excised appendage, toe nail, hand, foot, head, whatever (forget about the details of excision)? It's just a hunch, but from what I recollect, we'd best turn to the Quran for the answer to some of these questions.

The Middle East is arid. The sheep among us surely construe the storage of [an American's] severed head in the back of a refrigerator a kind of courtesy on the part of our enemy...

That, my friends, is not respect for the dead. Rather, it is a courtesy to a murderer's olfactory sense...

Cheers,

It's interesting how the Con-man singles out the Koran by name, but leaves the Bible under the heading of "other holy books." Yeah, I mean, nevermind that around 80% of Americans are Christians. Just file that Bible under "other."

Reciprocity. Save ink and paper, just require that we treat Islam and its holy works with the same respect Islam treats the religions and symbols of other religions. Not one bit more!

I posted this on LSB'sC and thought some here might enjoy it also.

A simple six question test to determine your political bent.

If you see someone burning an American flag you should:
1) Ignore it, he's a moonbat who will soon die of some dread disease he contracted through using dirty illegal drugs or engaging in weird sex.
2) Remind him that the flag is held in high esteem by many and tell him that someone might hurt him if he doesn't stop.
3) Pour a bucket of water on the burning flag, lecture him about how great America is, and tell him to go home and read some history books.
4) Pour a bucket of water on the burning flag, clobber him in the head with the empty bucket and before he can get up remove all his clothes and burn them.

If you come across someone passing out leaflets reading "US out of America" you should:
1) Ignore it, idiot ideas are everywhere and moonbats swoon over them all the time.
2) Take a leaflet, pretend to read it, then ask him what language it is in and what planet he is from .
3) Take all his leaflets, tell him he looks tired and you'll circulate the leaflets for him so he can go home and get high.
4) Slap his face several times, take all the leaflets and stuff them into his mouth one by one until he passes out.

If you own an object you prize above all else because you believe it has been sanctified by whatever G-d you believe in and someone spits on it you should:
1) Ignore him, he's just a misguided kid who has no clue how he even dressed himself this morning.
2) Lower and shake your head sadly realizing that this benighted individual has not yet learned the truth.
3) Shake your finger at him and give him a stern reminder that such behavior will make him unpopular.
4) Poke a finger into his chest while shouting "desecrator, desecrator" and when he raises his arm to protect himself rearrange his facial contours.

If you see a group of protesters calling themselves America Last you should:
1) Ignore them, cross the street and comfort yourself with the thought that free speech allows even these demented people a voice.
2) Stop, listen to their chant (they'll only have one), ask how on earth any thinking person could come up with such pathetic versification.
3) Stop, start your own chant "Hey, Hey, U S A, Hope you win again today!"
4) Stop, take out a rubber truncheon and begin methodically moving through the crowd rapping each member of the group solidly behind each knee.

If you read an article disrespectful of American values you should:
1) Ignore it, everyone is entitled to a stupid opinion now and then even if they never have anything but stupid opinions.
2) Contact the editor, criticize the article and the writer sprinkling the conversation liberally with terms such as Commie, pinko, leftist, Socialist, and traitor.
3) Cancel your subscription, write the publisher telling them that you and everyone you can convince will never buy anything published by that company again.
4) Go to the publisher's office, find the writer and beat the crap out of him then find the editor and beat the crap out of him then set their desks and files on fire.

If you find someone desecratorily touching a Koran you should:
1) Slay him, he has desecrated the holy Qu'ran and insulted the prophet, may he rest in peace.
2) Issue a fatwah on the desecrator offering paradise to anyone who finds and kills him.
3) Start a riot blaming the little Satan Israel and the big Satan America for creating this atmosphere of disrespect for Islam.
4) Ignore it, you don't care because the truth is in your heart, not in a book.

First of all, don't embarrass yourselves by advancing some notion you have a prayer of defeating Conyers in his Congressional District! Even Armstrong Williams ain't that stupid. Conyer's stature has grown immensely since the Ohio Vote Fraud Investigation, not only among his Dem colleagues and the party faithful, but among his constituents, as well.

And, although I think a bit of political demagoguing is at work here, asking Americans to make such a pledge now is far better than the Pentagon blaming detainees for Koran desecration!

However, those of you on the Right may go ahead with your hysterical exaggerations, throwing the 'Islamofacists' tag around, which will only anger American Muslims, too.

[First of all, don't embarrass yourselves by advancing some notion you have a prayer of defeating Conyers in his Congressional District!]

Who's embarrassed? And who asked for your advice? And who besides you thinks there is a prayer? So what?

[although I think a bit of political demagoguing is at work here,]

Gee, ya think?

[However, those of you on the Right may go ahead with your hysterical exaggerations, throwing the 'Islamofacists' tag around, which will only anger American Muslims, too.]

Hysterical exaggerations? Are you new?

Does the name Nick Berg mean anything to you? Eugene Armstrong? How about the date 9/11/01?

Lucky for you, some of us don't have our heads in the desert sand. We're not going to pretend we don't have a problem with Islamofascism just because others are too senstive and don't want to hurt anyone's feeling by speaking the politically incorrect truth.

[However, those of you on the Right may go ahead with your hysterical exaggerations, throwing the 'Islamofacists' tag around, which will only anger American Muslims, too.]

There you go… blurring the distinction between "American Muslims" and Islamofacists-that-piloted-fully-fuelled-airliners-into-the-WTC-on-9/11. Well done you. I’ve occasionally tried to argue in this forum that such a distinction exists, but more and more I question this notion as a baseless and idealistic hope.

The silence of the American Muslim community post-9/11 argues against this hope.

Sorry, but liberals who look within themselves and come up only with the weakness that obfuscates the fact that a radical brand of Muslims would happily saw your head off with a rusty machete redoubles my resolve make sure you and the rest of your liberal “thinkers” are among the first in line for the beheading…

If it comes that that, know this: I'll be among those taking out the executioners...

Cheers,

The problem gentlemen, is the reckless arrogance of the rhetoric coming from the Conservative Right!

You both make the careful distinction of who these 'Islamofacists' are, but not everyone on the Right have such discipline.

Are American Muslims the only ones exempt from this label? What about our few Arab allies? If they support us, but are angered over the alleged abuses, are they tagged as the enemy?

[You both make the careful distinction of who these 'Islamofacists' are, but not everyone on the Right have such discipline.]

If labels are anything, know that I am a Democrat, and that I have been since I registered to vote in 1978 and to serve this country (read draft registration) in 1979 (thank you James Earl Carter).

You contend the "right" does not distinguish between American Muslims and Islamofascists, and that my position constitutes some kind of inflamatory rhetoric that does great damage, though to whom you do not say.

You are wrong, of course. Conservatives like myself know that American Muslims and Muslims world wide can flourish under the purely American idea of Freedom of Religion.

Bummer trying to argue against that...

Cheers,

"...asking Americans to make such a pledge now is far better than the Pentagon blaming detainees for Koran desecration!"

A. "pledge" -- pfaff. I b'lieve we already did far better than that. [See Constitution - 1st Amendment]

B - Why not blame the "detainees" as they are the ones doing most of the damage to their Korans?

Perhaps we could avoid all this fooferah by removing the Korans that we [US] paid for and gave to the "detainees." ...and the rugs ...and the hats ... and the oils ..and the loudspeakers ...and the great big signs in every room telling them which way is Mecca. Then *no one* could kick it around.
