Rain on this...

Could this be why we haven't heard from Prince in awhile?

The good news is he will be performing on the Grammys Sunday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain which is very high on the FRt... list.

Nothing more fly than this...

Curtis Mayfield -

Curtis Mayfield Superfly

This classic concept album (far too rare these days), a frequent pick for leisurely days around the house, is the 2nd in my FRt cata(b)log.

Curtis Mayfield was a genius, able to turn his profound societal observances into soulful, funky aural art which has often been credited for raising the black consciousness during the civil war era.

Superfly is one of the best blaxploitation soundtracks, probably only second to this classic which will be rotated here at a later date.

I had the opportunity to meet Mayfield in 1993 at the Wetlands Preserve. How much more I would have appreciated it if I had known at the time what a legend he was, but ignorant was I. Not only was I unfamiliar with his own works, I was also completely unaware of his enormous influence on so many other artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Erykah Badu, The Fugees and countless others.

Mayfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 with the Impressions and again 1999, the year of his death, as a solo artist.

Mac this...

My first Forever Rotate this... CD is The Dance by Fleetwood Mac. Flawless in every way if you consider the flaws fabulous as I do. A glorious union of energy, passion and talent.

I was fortunate enough to see 2 shows on The Dance tour, one at Madison Square Garden (Nov. 27, 1997) and the other two nights later in Atlantic City (Nov. 29, 1997). It was their first reunion in years and it was beyond awesome.

The Dance fulfills all need for The Mac, except for a persistent contender for best album ever that can never be shelved.

Rotate this...

Since I find the likelihood of my becoming stranded on a desert island inconceivable and since the mere thought of being limited to a randomly determined number of CDs on said island causes me to hyperventilate, I decided the desert island disc collection was not for me.

And thus was born my Forever Rotate this... cata(b)log. An UNlimited collection of music I cannot live without and of which I will likely never tire.
