Tragedy stuck the NHRA Sunday, when driver Antron Brown lost control of his dragster at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. A spectator was struck by a rear tire that separated from the Top Fuel car on impact. The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to nearby Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix where she was later pronounced dead.
NHRA driver Scott Kalitta, 46, was killed in a fiery crash during a drag race at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park on Saturday. Witnesses said the driver was speeding at en estimated 300 mph during the NHRA Super Nationals when the engine of his Toyota Solara exploded in a ball of flames.
