Kenseths: Great expectations in 2009 for this...

2009 Shaping Up to be Big Year for Matt and Katie Kenseth

Matt kenseth daytona 500 How apropos that the biggest NASCAR WAG headline of season-opening weekend belongs to the wife of Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth.

Katie Kenseth is expecting the couple's first child together!

... she's about five months along. These two have been married for eight years and fans have been waiting for forEVer for this great news. Congrats to Matt and Katie.

UPDATE: Kaylin Nicola Kenseth arrived on July 6!

C'mon, Ryan and Krissie Newman. You could be next! A word of warning to the fans hoping for this ... Krissie once said she didn't want to start a family until Ryan was within five years of retirement. Be careful what you wish for.

Did you miss opening ceremonies and all the wives and girlfriends on pit road like I did? Here's a partial replay. No surprises here: Kevin and Delana Harvick, Jeremy and Shana Mayfield, Jamie McMurray and Christy Futrell, Tony and (vacant), AJ and Lynne Allmendinger, Elliott and Amanda Sadler (1st time on pit road as married couple), Jeff and Kim Burton, Brian Vickers and (vacated by Amy in the off-season), Clint Bowyer and (vacant), Sam and Crystal Hornish, Juan and Connie Montoya, David Stremme and Elizabeth Peschock, Joey Logano and (vacant) and Jimmie and Chani Johnson.

This wasn't my favorite performance by Gavin DeGraw and I saw some harsh critiques on Twitter today. Do not let this discourage you from checking him out or seeing him in concert. He is just fantastic: 2nd time's a charm and charmed I was by this...

Leave your burning questions in the comments. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne are obvious, both are rumored to be dating. My question is this... When aren't they? One publicly, one privately -- never is without a female companion for any extended period of time. Yet neither ever seems to make a go of it for longer than a period of a few months either. How serious can it be? Discuss.

Happy anniversary and wishes for speedy recovery to this...

Kevin and Delana

Happy anniversary to Kevin and Delana Harvick! The beloved NASCAR couple have been married seven years ... and they sure don't appear to be suffering from any itch.

The Harvick's dog, LO, is suffering a bit after undergoing surgery. Fans join family and friends in wishing LO a swift recovery.

Quoting this...

"This past weekend in California had to have been one of the longest race weekends so far in my racing career.  Being at the track without DeLana and LO, not to mention all the rain delays really made the time go by very slow."
~ Kevin Harvick, on missing his wife and pup

SUPER SPONSOR SHOUTOUT

Bright Star Light Products, a unit of Koehler-Bright Star, Inc. that was recently purchased by Berkshire-Hathaway, Inc., has come to the aid of a United States Army Battalion now based in Kirkuk, Iraq as a favor to a Key Motorsports team member.

Jeff O’Farrell, a computer specialist, welder, electrician and race day gas catch can man for the Key Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Nationwide Series racing organization based in Mooresville, NC, recently contacted Bright Star Light Products to see if the company could help out his son Brody’s 10th Mountain Division unit.

Brody’s Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade of the 22nd Infantry Regiment is part of a 1,000-man squad located in this northern Iraqi province where Jeff said “was based in a tent city with no outside protective barrier to speak of.”

“Brody said that they are handicapped by the lack of sufficient light when they are on patrol in motorized vehicles at night, so he asked if we had a sponsor that could help,” the elder O’Farrell explained.

Though Key Motorsports did not boast of a sponsor that was into the lighting business, telephone calls made by the race team’s sales staff produced Bright Star. Subsequent telephone calls and discussions to the Hanover Township, Pennsylvania-based company produced some interest, and in just a couple of weeks after discussions began Bright Star shipped the lights to Brody’s outfit. “It should make a whale of a difference for them,” O’Farrell said.

“Bright Star is known in the lighting industry to produce what is regarded as the ‘Safest Flashlight’”, said the company’s National Sales Manager Shannon Sink. “There is a certification process that has to be undertaken in order for any light product to be certified for use in a particular situation such as mining and military use, so when the problem these soldiers were having was explained to us, we pretty much knew that it had to be our new Lighthawk units with lithium iron battery technology that were needed here,” Sink added.

Bright Star lights are predominantly hand held versions, so the soldiers in O’Farrell’s unit had to devise a method to attach the lights to their vehicles to achieve their objectives. “We’re pretty happy as to how the folks at Bright Star reacted to our plea and how quickly they sent the lights. It will certainly help our son and the others in the Battalion as they serve out their tour,” O’Farrell added.

Sink explained that Bright Star has sold lighting to the military before, so this kind of application was something they felt they could satisfy. “The key is providing something that will keep the soldiers safe, and we take a lot of pride knowing that we have the technology and the products to satisfy this particular situation. So when the call came to help we jumped at the chance,” Sink ended.

Sgt. O’Farrell, 27, is in his sixth year with the Army and is serving in his third tour of duty in the Middle East and second in Iraq. He first served in Afghanistan for nine months and then a year in Iraq before returning home in September 2006. He re-enlisted for another 4 to 6-year term upon his most recent deployment that began in September.

Tune-InTUNE IN ALERT

"On Pit Row" with Delana Harvick, Thursday at 7:00 PM ET on www.racetalkradio.com.

Delana was an emotional wreck after this...

Kevin and DelanaFloridaToday.com - "After starting 34th and running as deep as 29th after 180 of 200 laps [of the Dayton 500], Harvick worked his way up to sixth and during a red flag for a late-race wreck proved prescient.

It was during the red flag, and Kevin came across the radio and said, 'You know, we can still win this, right?'

"I thought coming back to take the green (flag) that he'd probably get a pretty decent finish, maybe at least a top 5. I thought he could get around a couple of cars in front of him if they could help draft with him. I just remember thinking 'That's OK, he's going to get a pretty decent finish,' and the next thing I remember is hearing his spotter screaming, 'C'mon, give it all you've got it's the Daytona 500.'

"In an instant I look at the TV and I see him passing Mark Martin and it's not registering to me what's happening. I've got this guy screaming in my ear, I'm watching Kevin do this and I remember leaning over the wall just to see if I could see him cross the start-finish line and I did, and then it's all a blank...

"I don't remember how everything happened because, and this is embarrassing, I fell down in the fetal position and cried like a baby behind pit wall between the pit box."

'What if?' the race brat hadn't become the wife of this...?

"They share more than just an acumen for the sport.

They share competitiveness born of a lifetime spent in racing and a deep and abiding respect for those who came before them and upon whose shoulders they stand.

They also share a marriage that is as much about mutual respect and friendship and love and admiration as it is about the trust in one another to do the right thing, whether it be in the formality of the boardroom or the ferocity on the high banks."

They are NASCAR's Kevin and Delana Harvick

Renaming the track after this...

Delana International Speedway

Kevin Harvick Inc. and owner Delana Harvick have dominated the past two Daytona 300 Busch Series races at Daytona International Speedway, winning the prestigious season-opening events with driver Tony Stewart.

With Kevin Harvick Inc.'s success in the Daytona 300, Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig announced that the legendary historic motorsports facility will now carry the name of its team owner -- Delana -- for the day.

Braig made the announcement Thursday during the NASCAR Busch Series Champion's Week Media Luncheon and gave a piece of historic pavement from Daytona to Delana with the new track logo.

Quoting this...
Braig: "Kevin Harvick Inc. and its owner Delana Harvick have won the last two February Busch Series races at DIS. Since they 'own' the track, in their honor, we're going to change the name of Daytona International Speedway to 'DeLana International Speedway' for the day."
