Today marks the 100th birthday of Mrs. Katherine "Kitty" Allison, matriarch of the legendary Allison family of NASCAR fame.
Katherine met her late husband Edmond "Pop" Allison at a dance. They were married in Miami, Florida on October 23, 1927, and went on to have 13 children.
Among the Allison children were NASCAR legends Robert "Bobby" Allison, the fifth in line, and Donald "Donnie" Allison, the sixth in line. Older brother Eddie served as Bobby's mechanic throughout much of his career. The Allison brothers and subsequent generations of Allisons have 113 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series wins to their credit, one series championship and two Raybestos Rookie of the Year titles, along with Bobby's two NASCAR Modified Division championships. The Allisons have been one of the stalwart families of NASCAR and among the sport's greatest ambassadors.
The entire NASCAR Nation wishes Kitty "Mom" Allison the most joyous of birthdays and thanks Mrs. Allison for her contribution to the sport.
